What Motivates You?

Because each of us is different, the ways we are motivated can be very different as well. Most people are motivated by money, some by fame, and others by recognition. What is your strongest motivator?

When it comes to health and well-being, we share a lot of common ground. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle usually leads to a longer life, more energy, and less stress. And, with the growing acceptance of alternative health treatments blending traditional and naturopathic medicine, called integrative medicine, is widely preferred.

What motivates us when it comes to health and wellness?

  • Trust – Above all other factors, we need to have trust in our advisors. We like to find healthcare providers who understand our points-of-view and embrace the same philosophies that we do. And we want their assurance that the recommended treatements have been proven successful.
  • Time – Many of us want a quick fix. We are looking for the magic pill or potion that will give us immediate relief. On the other side of the coin, we also desire long-lasting relief from our symptoms, perhaps by identifying and treating their causes.
  • Cost – What if my insurance won’t cover it? How much out-of-pocket expense can you afford? Will the results be worth the investment? Most of us are not independently wealthy; comparing the costs of available options can be very important.
  • Source – Where did this stuff come from? Was it picked from a tree, grown in a laboratory, or compounded from a mixture of synthetic chemicals? Patients want to know the origins of any substance they consume and where these treatements have been developed.
  • Consequence – Yes this pill will probably relieve my pain, but it might destroy my kidneys and stomach. Umm, wait a minute; I need to think about that. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Many of us carefully weigh the pros and cons of any treatment plan to ensure the benefit is worth the risk.
  • Control – Many of us like to be in control or have a say in the treatment we recieve. We like to know that there is some certainty about the effect a treatment will have. Fortunately, there are many things we can do to improve our health condition. A good healthcare provider can help you develop a plan that will help you establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Access – Yes I would like to try acupuncture but I can’t find an acupuncturist in my town. Can I get in for treatments when I need to? A major factor in our decision-making processes is access. If a practitioner or technology is not available locally, it is not an option for many, regardless of its healing potential.

The experienced naturopathic doctors and acupuncture specialists at Southwest Integrative Medicine provide comprehensive advice, taking time with patients to develop customized treatment plans that fit their individual needs. Naturopathic treatments work with the body's systems so that there is less risk of side effects and negative consequences; they put the controls back in the patients' hands. These proven treatments may include a combination of one or more of the following: acupuncture, hormone therapy, vitamin therapy, herbal medicine, or conventional treatments.
